What recommendations would you give for people wanting to ride Vespas in Italy. It seems fairly easy to do but I suspect there is more to this than people imagine! Tom L.

Hi Tom, Great question! First and foremost, I recommend significant experience on a Vespa or motorcycle. On the first day, one of our friends had a collision with a van in front of the leaning tower of Pisa. A few days later a couple of Dutch ladies that were with us slid on gravel and got scraped up pretty good. These Vespas can exceed 60 MPH (100 KPH) and the roads can be slick, narrow and often just gravel. Additionally, we drove through Florence traffic where motorcycles/Vespas are expected to "lane split." Diving through the city is definitely not for the faint of heart or the inexperienced. So, Practice, practice, practice!!
