“Each moment of the year has its own beauty, a picture which was never seen before, and which shall never be seen again.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Tip #1 - The Indian Ocean and sea at Reunion are beautiful, but make sure you also take some time to visit the town — its like a little French village. Plus, we heard that a tour of the volcano is interesting and educational.

Tip #2 - If cruising, be warned that their summer is Dec-Feb, so like the Caribbean, the seas are a bit more angry in the summer. Again, the seas are a bit rough, so consider packing seasick meds. All worth the investment!

Tip #3 - If visiting National Parks during the rainy season (US winter!), your shoes will be caked with Mud. Consider packing an old pair of shoes with good tread!

Reunion Island - We visited the white sand beaches of St. Giles les Baines and enjoyed a walk on the beach and explored the outdoor markets; Jack took a dip in the sea as well!

One day at sea - Malaria medication started, long sleeves and a good stockage of DEET - No mosquitos for us!

Opps - apparently, two days at sea…our first stop in Madagascar to visit Amber Mountain National Park did not occur. We stayed on the ship! We could not dock due to high winds — just another relaxing day at sea.

Nosy Be, Madagascar - a 1/2 day visit to Lokobe National Reserve where we took local boats to the National Reserve, trekked through the ocean, and hiked via a muddy trail in the forest to see the natural wildlife, then a visit with the locals.

See all our pictures of Lokobe on our next post!
